For Michael's birthday in September I got him tickets to a Chicago Blackhawks game. Unfortunately he had to wait a few months for the game to be here but I wanted to pick a game against one of Chicago's big rivals. On Friday the day had finally arrived and we decided to make a whole date night out of it. It's been a while since we had a night out just the two of us.
We dropped Ethan off at Grandma and Papa's for a fun overnight stay. We got him all set up and then we were on the road to the city. We had dinner reservations at RPM Italian before the game. We went there last Summer and loved it and we had gift certificates so we figured it was the perfect opportunity to use them. We had some of our favorites from last time and tried a few new things as well. Everything was delicious!
After dinner we were off to the United Center for the game. We were both so excited for the game. Michael had never been to a Hawks game and I haven't been since the 90's and they were terrible then.
We were playing the Vancouver Canucks which is a huge rivalry so I knew it would be an action packed game. They delivered on the action; the game went into overtime, a shoot out and then a sudden death shoot out that went 8 rounds! We certainly got our money's worth with all the extra game time. Unfortunately the Hawks lost but we still had so much fun and our seats were amazing. We were only 4 rows behind the glass so we were really close to the action. We really want to go back for another game, hopefully before the end of the season!
One of the things we were most looking forward to was the singing of the National Anthem. It's unlike any other sporting event or venue, the crowd cheers the entire time and it's just amazing, I had goosebumps!
Game time!
Shoot Out
