25 Days of Christmas: Day 11 - Ethan is 19 months

I'm taking a quick pause in the Christmas fun to discuss our little man at 19 months. I can't believe how quick this past month went. You are now closer to being 2 than you are 1, I need to start planning your birthday party soon! You have had a word explosion this month. You never stop talking. Even if we can't understand all of it, you jibber jabber all day long. I started keeping a running list of all of your words we can understand on my phone and it is getting bigger by the day.

Here are the words you can say: Dada, Mama, car, choo choo, ball, shoe, this, yeah, bye bye, purple, blue, touchdown, dog, cat, gone, done, cracker, pretty, strawberry, corn, uh oh, duck, night night, Santa, ho ho ho, Papa, two and three.

It seems like you add a new word every day; it's amazing to see you learning new things. My favorite word you are saying right now is "car." You say it like you're from Boston and its the cutest thing ever!

You are still in love with books and you are having so much fun with our Christmas book countdown. You are also very into puzzles right now. You are really good at the Melissa & Doug puzzles you have. You can do them so quickly and even if we mix up pieces from 2 puzzles you put them in the right puzzles. You always clap for yourself after you finish and it's the cutest thing ever! We got you number and letter puzzles to start working on learning your numbers and letters and you are loving them. They are more advanced then the 5 or 8 piece puzzles you've been doing but you are doing really well with them. They must be working because you can now count to 5 and you can say a few letters of the alphabet and the sound the letter makes if we point to them.

Trains are still your passion. You love your trains and you can entertain yourself for hours with the tiny bit of track we have. I love that your favorite toy requires no batteries and is powered purely by your imagination. I know that you are just going to lose your mind when you see what Santa has in store for you on Christmas! We set up your Polar Express train you got from Grandma and Papa and you are obsessed. You love to watch it go around and around and press the buttons to make the whistle blow or the hear conductor say, "All aboard!"

One of the things you aren't too fond of right now is being strapped into things. You have a definite time limit when it comes to being strapped into your stroller, car seat, high chair or shopping cart. I always make sure I am armed with cars or choo choos and a snack to keep you occupied for as long as possible. You hate wearing gloves and I keep trying to work with you to wear them but you won't budge. Hopefully at some point this Winter you will figure out that I'm just trying to prevent frostbite, HA! You definitely have your moments of testing and challenging us to see how far you can push us and it usually ends with you having a tantrum and lying on the ground. We just walk away and it's over as soon as it began. We know this is all part of you becoming a big boy and is bound to happen, luckily you are smiley and happy 95% of the time.

We got our first snow of the season and you weren't sure what to make of it. We only got a few inches but you were apprehensive to even walk on it, it was really funny. It will be interesting to see your reaction when we get a bunch of snow that we can play in! I have all of your snow gear just waiting now we just need the snow.

We have had a lot of fun so far this holiday season making family memories and enjoying traditions we started just for you. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and our Christmas is off to a great start. You absolutely love the Christmas tree and Christmas lights. You love looking at all of the ornaments on the tree and I put lots of fun ornaments that light up and play music down at your level so you can touch them. The only Christmas activity you haven't liked so far was visiting Santa! I can't wait until Christmas morning to see you open all of your gifts.

We had your 18 month check up this past month and it went really well. You are developing perfectly, meeting all of your milestones and growing big and strong! You are just under 37 inches tall, 29 pounds and your head measures 20.5 inches around. You are our little giant and still growing off the charts! You are wearing size 24 month pants and 2T shirts for that long torso. You wear size 4 diapers but I just bought size 5's for when those are gone. Your canine teeth on the bottom should be popping through soon. You have been drooling like crazy and I can see the white buds under your gum. Eating has been interesting. In the past 2 weeks you seem to be interested in eating more and more things which has been great, I hope it lasts! You are still the greatest sleeper ever. You sleep at least 12 hours at night and are still taking 2 naps a day. You go down for an hour or so in the morning and then at least 2 hours in the afternoon. You love your sleep!

Ethan, I say it every month, but it never gets old. You are the most amazing little boy that we could have ever imagined. Daddy and I look at each other every day and say, "how did we get the coolest, cutest kid ever?" You are full of life and give us so much love and lots of laughs every day. You are so sweet and loving and give the best big hugs. I'm treasuring every moment with you and kind of wish I could hit pause right now for a few months because this age is just awesome. We love you so much and are so proud of you every day. We can't wait to see what amazing things next month will bring.
