We are doing a little construction project in our kitchen this week. It's nothing ground breaking, but visually it will make an impact. We are lowering our granite breakfast bar on our kitchen island. The breakfast bar is so high it visually takes up a lot of space in the kitchen. Michael's mom saw on an HGTV show that the reason why builders are doing this now is to "hide the mess" that lurks on the lower section of the island. Michael's dad has done this on one of our neighbors houses in our subdivision and it really makes a difference.
Here are a couple progress pictures, I will definitely post the completed after shot.
Here is the before - note how the breakfast bar is about 10 inches elevated from the main island counter top
Here is a progress picture of the breakfast bar removed and drywall cut down.
Isn't it crazy how it visually opens up the kitchen? You can visually "see through" the kitchen now. The breakfast bar will be placed on top of the cut section so it will only be about 4 inches above the main counter top. I know it seems minor, but I think it's going to look great when it's completed. Hopefully it will be finished on Wednesday!
