Weekend Recap

Another fun Summer weekend! On Friday we had some crazy storms roll through. I was coming out of Costco and it looked like the world was going to end! That is one angry sky!

After Michael was done with work for the day we headed out for dinner and then went over to Rich and Tif's to hand out with them, the kids and Ken. We had fun hanging out for a few hours and then headed home to get our little man to bed.

On Saturday we got up early and headed out to Wheaton for breakfast at Egg Harbor and then went shopping at the Farmer's Market. After we got home I made pasta salad for Michael's family 4th of July party we were going to later in the day. We all got ready for the party and I snapped some pictures before we left. It was Ethan's first 4th of July party after all.

We headed out to the party around 3. Michael's Dad's family have been having this 4th of July party for many years. I've never been to one so this was mine and Ethan's first time. We hung out with Michael's parents, Rich, Tif and the kids for the most part. Jacob went into a jumpy jump for the first time. He wasn't too sure about it since there were bigger kids in there with him.

Jacob's favorite thing at the party was playing baggo with Michael and Grandma. He was working so hard lugging those bags around but he was having a blast!

One of the traditions at the party is a water balloon toss. Michael and Rich were partners. They didn't win, apparently because of a weak balloon according to Rich, HA!

It was a fun party. We left around 7 and headed home and just relaxed the rest of the night.

On Sunday we got up, had some breakfast and just relaxed and watched some of the Olympic trials from the night before. We were all ready to go swimming over at Rich and Tif's. Even Ethan was all ready for the pool! Thanks Auntie Arla for my cute trunks and hat!

And then this happened...

We got another round of storms like the ones that rolled through on Friday, but they were more intense this time. Our furniture on the deck told the best story. This is what it looked like right after the storm came through.

Our power went out but it came back on after a half hour or so, so it wasn't too bad. We thought for sure our swimming plans were ruined but the sun came out shining and so we headed over to Rich and Tif's to see if we could still swim. On our way there we kept getting diverted to different streets because of downed trees. There were trees down that looked like there were 100 years old. It was definitely a powerful storm.

We did end up getting to swim though. The sun warmed everything right back up. Makayla and Ethan slept while we were in the pool but Jacob did come in with us for a while before his nap. Uncle Michael was pushing him around on a raft.

We had fun swimming for a couple of hours and then we got out to dry off and make dinner. Tif made a salad and Michael and Rich made filet and strip steaks and potatoes for dinner. Everything was delicious. I didn't get a picture because it disappeared off our plates too quickly! After dinner we hung out for a little while before heading home. The rest of the night we just relaxed and watched some more Olympic trials.

It was a great weekend and we have a fun week ahead too! On Wednesday we are celebrating the 4th at Arla and Teddy's and then on Thursday we are heading downtown to have dinner at RPM Italian, Bill and Giuliana's restaurant. I can't wait! I hope all of you had a great weekend and have a fun and safe 4th of July!

  1. Great pictures. Ethan is so cute! I follow your blog from Michigan and we were hoping to get some of that rain that you had on Friday and Sunday...but no such luck. Of course we don't want the strong winds...just some rain.
