Baby #2: The Details!

Thanks to everyone for all of your well wishes on Ethan's promotion! I know many of you were surprised by our announcement this past weekend. But I can guarantee you that no one was as surprised as Michael and I were by this pregnancy. Yes, you read that right, I got pregnant on my own without IVF! Many of you know our story by now about our difficult road to get pregnant with Ethan. We were told it was virtually impossible to get pregnant on our own because of all of the challenges I have with PCOS, a blocked tube, lazy ovary, etc., but apparently nature found a way. We thought Ethan was our miracle baby, but baby #2 is trying to outshine him already!

So here's how it all happened. On January 28 I was two days late and had to run into the grocery store to get something for dinner and I thought I would pick up a pregnancy test so I could just take it, see that it was negative and move on and wait for my period to come. Well, I came home took the test and literally the moment the liquid hit the test strip, it popped up pregnant!

I was shocked out of my mind! I ran downstairs to Michael's office and screamed, "I'm pregnant!" We were both immediately in tears and in total disbelief. Michael's first words were, "I am so happy you don't have to go through IVF again!" I just could not believe that it was even possible this could happen without IVF. We were so excited. I think my veins were even more excited they wouldn't have to be put through this again!

The next day I started to go into a bit of a panic mode because I was so heavily monitored with my first pregnancy and when I called my doctor's office to tell them I was pregnant the nurse said the doctor didn't need to see me for 4 weeks. I didn't know what to do. I asked if I could have a blood test to make sure all of my levels were okay because I had low hormones with Ethan and had to be put on supplements so I was worried I would need them this time too. Well I'm glad I asked for the test because I needed the supplements, but other than that, my numbers were great. Then I just had to wait the very long, tortuous 4 weeks until my appointment. Being a normal pregnant woman was not all it was cracked up to be!

Finally those 4 weeks came and I got to see my doctor! He was so excited for us and was just as shocked as we were that we got pregnant on our own. He gave me all the credit though and said that my running and losing more than 60 pounds most likely had a lot to do with it so that made me feel really good considering I have felt broken the past 4 years. I was so nervous, I hadn't had any issues but I needed to see that baby on the screen! And then the moment I had been waiting for, our little bean!

It was such a relief to see that little baby on the screen! Everything looked perfect, the baby was measuring right and the heartbeat was 185, the same as Ethan's at this time! We were on cloud nine!

So the question everyone always asks is, "How are you feeling?" In one word, terrible. It has been a very tough first trimester. It has been completely different than my pregnancy with Ethan. I have been nauseous all day since I hit 6 weeks and been throwing up. I've been exhausted which is why my blog has been so neglected the past few weeks. I feel like I've been a terrible wife and mother because I've just not been myself. It has been rough, but obviously so worth it. The good news is that I feel like I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm starting to feel less nauseous in the past few days so I'm hoping that as my first trimester ends I will be feeling better and get my energy back.

My due date is October 7 but I will be having a planned c-section at 39 weeks so we could have a September or October baby depending on scheduling. I will be 11 weeks on Tuesday. We will be finding out if it's a boy or a girl of course, you know I can't wait! We will be going to a third-party ultrasound place the week of Easter and then announcing the gender to our families on Easter. I'm so excited to find out if Ethan is going to have a little brother or sister. My gut says its another boy, but you never know!

So that's the update on our little bun in the oven. There will be lots more to come, you can count on it!

Ethan's World: 22 Months

I cannot believe that you are 2 months from being 2, it is crazy! You have been a lot less temperamental this month it has been great and I hope it lasts! Being a toddler is tough, you are told "no"constantly and you can't fully express what you want to say so that we understand. Your vocabulary is constantly growing and we are surprised almost daily by the new words you pick up.

I did it!

This is your favorite phrase right now. Anytime you do anything, build a tower with blocks, do a puzzle, etc. you shout, "I did it!" It is the cutest thing ever. You are just starting to put more words together but this was definitely your first phrase.

Colors

We have been working diligently with you on your colors. You know red, green, blue, purple, orange, and yellow. We are working on black, brown, white. My favorite color you say is yellow, it is the cutest thing the way you say it. You are funny with your colors though because almost every time we ask you what color something is you say, "green." And then we say, "no," and ask you again and you always get it right. Oh how those toddler brains work!

Bookie

You have always loved books and being read to, but lately it seems like it's at a whole new level. And you started calling your books, "bookie" and it is so sweet when you say it. At the end of the night you start to stand by the gate and point upstairs saying, "bookie" because you know when you go to bed you will get to have us read you a bunch of books. It is the cutest thing and I hope you only continue to love your books even more!

Puddle Jumper

A few weeks ago we had a day that was 40 degrees so we went for a walk. The whole time you were jumping and splashing in the puddles, you loved it. The only issue was you were wearing your gym shoes and your feet were soaked. So I bought you the cutest pair of boots and you are obsessed with them! You love splashing and jumping in all of the puddles and you just love wearing your boots. You'd wear them in the house if I let you! I think we are going to have even more puddle jumping fun this Spring!

Big Brother

Obviously the biggest news this month is that you are going to be a big brother!! I am so excited to see you in that role. You are so good with other kids, I know you will be a great big brother. When we showed you the ultrasound pictures for the first time and told you it was a picture of your baby brother or sister, you said, "baby." Now anytime we show you the ultrasound pictures you say, "baby, baby, baby!" I love the picture of you looking at the ultrasound pictures. You have the sweetest look on your face. I can't wait for the moment when you get to meet your big brother or sister in person!

Ethan, you are the greatest gift we could have ever hoped for and I can't believe we are almost to the 2 year mark! It has been amazing to watch you grow and change over all of these months. I am going to treasure every single day with you from now until October while it is still just the three of us. You are a joy to be around and even on your tough toddler days you are still the cutest thing I have ever seen. Daddy and I love you so much and can't wait to see what new things these next months will bring!
