Family Favorite Recipe: Mom's Sub Sandwich



Now that we know who's going to be in this year's Super Bowl, Patriots vs. Giants, I thought I would share one of my favorite things to have on Super Bowl Sunday, although it's delicious anytime. My mom has been making this version of her sub sandwich for years and its always a crowd pleaser. It's super easy to put together and with a couple of these, you can feed a hungry crowd. The deli meats and cheese I list below can be interchanged with whatever kinds you like. These are Michael's favorites!

Ingredients

1 loaf vienna or Italian bread

1 tomato

1 bag shredded lettuce

1 jar claussen's hearty garlic sandwich slice pickles

1/2 pound turkey breast

1/2 pound ham

1/4 pound hard salami or beer salami

1/4 pound munchee cheese

1/4 pound colby jack cheese

1/4 cup mayo

Italian dressing - we use the Good Season's mix to make ours, it's the best!

Assembly

I think the reason this tastes so good is how it is assembled. Having certain flavors next to the other makes all the difference. I might also just be crazy and obsessed over this sandwich, HA!

1. Slice your loaf of bread in half

2. Pour the Italian dressing on the bottom half and spread with a knife covering the entire loaf

3. Add your mayo to the top half and spread with a knife

4. Line pickle slices from one end to the other on the bottom half with the dressing

5. Slice tomato and place slices on the top half with the mayo

6. Start placing your meats and cheeses on the bottom half. I typically start with the ham on the bottom next to the pickles. Then top with munchee cheese. Followed by salami and colby jack, then the turkey.

7. Top the turkey with the shredded lettuce

8. Add the top half of the bread on top of the turkey

9. Slice and enjoy!

The sandwich even tastes great the next day, maybe even better!

Weekend Recap

We had another great family-filled weekend. On Friday I was happy that we were both working from home because around 10 am it started snowing like crazy.

We ended up with about 8 inches. We didn't let the snow ruin our normal Friday night plans with Rich, Tif and the kids though. We made our way through the snow and picked up dinner and headed over to their house. We had fun just hanging out and playing with the kids. The snow mostly stopped while we were there  so going home wasn't bad. 

On Saturday, we got up and went out to breakfast before I headed to the salon to get my hair colored. While I was at the salon, Michael worked on assembling Ethan's closet organizer system. It looks so nice and we have so much storage.

After Michael showed me the closet we headed off to order new carpet for our house. We have needed new carpet for a while now. We have crappy builders grade carpet and it's really worn. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to get new carpet before our little man arrives. So all but one room in the house is going to have the new carpet, it's going to look really nice when it's done. We went with a charcoal gray.

After carpet shopping we headed to Lombard to grab some dinner before going to Arla and Teddy's to baby-sit Lily. We went to Flattop for dinner for some delicious stir fry, it was yummy as always.

After dinner we were on Auntie and Uncle duty with Miss Lily. We had a lot of fun playing with her for a couple of hours before it was time for bed. She was a perfect angel and went right to sleep. 

We just relaxed and watched tv until Arla and Teddy came home. We hung out and talked for a while when they got home before we headed out.

Today we wanted to have a just the two of us day. We got up, had some breakfast and then headed out to do our grocery shopping for the week. After doing some shopping we headed home, unloaded everything and then headed up to the nursery. Michael worked on cleaning up some of the tools and painting tarps since we don't need them anymore. I worked on going through all of Ethan's clothes to see what we have so far. I hung and folded lots of cute little clothes that he got from Christmas. We haven't even had our shower yet and he has a good amount of clothes already! I also put his toys and stuffed animals in bins in his closet. I can't wait to see it all filled up!

After filling Ethan's closet, we had some lunch and decided to bake some homemade cookies. Michael found a recipe he wanted to try for double chocolate peanut butter cookies. They are really yummy!

We relaxed in the afternoon, watched the football games (how about that blown kick by Baltimore) and then Michael made us some yummy chicken quesadillas for dinner. It was a perfect Sunday!

I hope all of you had a great weekend as well. I'm so excited it's our last full week of work before we go on vacation, let's hope it goes fast!

Baby Dworianyn Bump Watch: 24 Weeks

How far along? 24 weeks, 3 days (Holy cow, 6 months!)
Size of the baby? Still a papaya. 12 inches, 1.6 lbs
Maternity clothes? Still in all of my regular clothes.
Weight gain? I thought I was going to gain this week since my belly is really starting to pop but still sitting at 26.5 pounds lost.
Gender? All boy!
Movement? He's a mover and a shaker.
Sleep? Sleep has been excellent, I'm really lucky.
Food Cravings? No real cravings right now, just trying to watch what I'm eating.
What I miss? Absolutely nothing, I am just loving being pregnant right now.
Symptoms? I feel awesome, I don't even feel pregnant unless I feel the little man moving and kicking.
Best moments of the week? All of the cute things arriving at our door for his nursery. Every day feels like Christmas when a new package arrives!
What is baby doing this week? This week our little boy's brain is developing rapidly. His taste buds are also continuing to develop. His lungs are developing branches of the respiratory tree as well as cells that produce a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon. He's also going to start plumping up.

Nursery Progress Report #2

Things are rolling right along in Ethan's nursery. Last week Michael's Dad spent a lot of time in our attic working on electrical. For some reason the builder of our house did not put any electrical in the ceiling. So at the minimum we needed to add a box in the center for the drum shade light fixture I'm having made. But since he was going to be up in the attic anyway, we figured we'd use the opportunity to add some recessed puck lights as well to make sure there is plenty of light for our little man.

In other construction news, the mirror and vanity in the bathroom are no more. Once the bathroom is painted, all of the new fixtures we purchased last week will be installed.

We also got his closet custom designed and purchased all of the materials to bring the plans to life. It's going to be so nice and there will be a ton of storage for all of his things.

The accessories for his bathroom were delivered last week as well. We were hoping it was going to look as good in person as it did online and we were really happy. We love all of the pieces and I think he's going to have a very cute bathroom!

On the decorating front, I made many Etsy purchases this week. I'm working on finding cute prints for the collage wall that is going to go above the dresser/changing area and I've made great progress. I still need to go and buy frames for everything but I wanted to get everything picked out so I know how many items are going to be in the collage first. These are some of the things I've purchased so far. Etsy is such a great resource for unique things, it's dangerous!

Weekend Recap

We had a great family-filled weekend even though it was cold and snowy.

On Friday we hung out with Rich, Tif, the kids and Ken. We went and grabbed dinner and then went back to just talk and play with the kids. We left when it was time for the kids to go to bed and headed home. We watched some tv and then crashed.

On Saturday we were up and out early. We had some breakfast and then headed to the Container Store. We wanted to design and purchase Ethan's custom closet. We met with one of their closet designers and we gave them all of the dimensions and we talked about some of the ideas we had. After about 20 minutes we had the perfect closet designed for our little man. It's going to be really nice and there will be plenty of storage. Here's a look at the design of his closet.

We had to wait a little while for them to pull all of the parts and then we loaded up the car and headed home. Michael's Dad was already at our house working on some nursery construction. Michael and his Dad we're working in the attic to make it possible to use it for storage. We have a huge attic and it seems silly to not use it. Especially since babies and kids come with a lot of stuff! After they worked for a few hours, they called it a day.

Michael and I relaxed for a bit and then we headed over to Rich and Tif's. Tif was baby-sitting Lauren, Liz's daughter and I thought she could use some extra help since she has Jacob and Makayla too. Michael and Rich watched the football games and we watched the kids. We played with them and then we had some dinner. Rich and Tif made some pulled pork and Michael and I brought a sub sandwich. Everything was yummy,we cleaned up the kids and then played some more. The guys went and got some ice cream, which the kids were very excited about. I think Jacob got more on his shirt than in his mouth!

On Sunday we had a very special day. Lily was being baptized and I had the honor of being her Godmother. She was such a good girl. She didn't make a beep the entire service, even when she was having the water poured on her head. After the baptism, Arla and Teddy hosted a really nice luncheon for the family. Being baptized is tough work!
