Vacation Recap 5: Disney Foodies

For my final vacation recap, I thought it would be fun to focus on the yummiest part of vacation, the food! Most people don't associate Disney with fine dining. I think people assume they will be eating hamburgers and hot dogs their entire vacation, but they actually have some amazing restaurants. There are several famous chefs who have restaurants on property as well. We have a lot of favorite restaurants, but we like to try some new places as well. We tried 3 new restaurants this time and they did not disappoint.

I took lots of food pictures throughout our entire trip so I thought I would cover some of my favorite meals.

Teppan Edo - Japan, Epcot

We always eat at Teppan Edo. It's like a Benihana and it's wonderful. The food is delicious; you start off with zucchini, onions in noodles with some soy sauce. Then you get to choose your meal, I usually get chicken and steak, but you can also have shrimp or scallops too. We had an awesome chef this time, his name was Kenji and he was from Tokyo. He was a lot of fun and everything was cooked perfectly!

Shrimp Po Boys - Restaurantasaurous, Animal Kingdom

Even quick service meals at Disney can be out of the box from a regular burger. These sandwiches were a new discovery this trip. We loved them so much we went back a second time! It was a shrimp po boy sandwich. It had fried shrimp in a lobster roll with lettuce and a spicy aioli sauce. They were delicious! We really want to replicate these at home, but can't nail down the sauce yet.

Flying Fish - Boardwalk Resort

Flying Fish was one of our new dining selections this trip. It came highly recommended and it was honestly my favorite meal of the trip. As you can guess by the name, they specialized in seafood and it was amazingly fresh. Michael and I shared the sushi appetizer you see above. It had tempura tuna in the roll and had raw tuna piled high. It was the best sushi I've ever had! For dinner Michael and I ordered 2 different entrees and then shared them with one another. I ordered a potato wrapped snapper and Michael ordered a char-crusted strip steak. Both were amazing! I found a recipe for the snapper online and I really want to make it. For dessert, all but my Dad ordered the "On the Boardwalk." It was a hint to carnival foods. There was a popsicle, a peanut butter and chocolate whoopie pie with poundcake "fries" and then popcorn flavored mousse. It was an amazing end to a delicious meal. We also had one of the best servers I've ever had at any restaurant. It was a great experience all around; I can't wait to go back.

Fulton's - Downtown Disney

Fulton's is a restaurant that we have been going to almost every time we head down to Disney. We have never had a bad meal or service there. Mom had the Lobster Narragansett, which is a lobster stuffed with scallops, shrimp, mushrooms, garlic and other yumminess. It's one of her favorite things there and she gets it almost every time. Dad got his new favorite meal, cioppino. It's a fish stew with pasta, crab, shrimp, scallops, mussels, and oysters in a spicy tomato sauce. He made that entire bowl disappear and was a very happy man! I had a delicious strip steak with grilled shrimp. Somehow I didn't get a picture of Michaels meal but he had Alaskan king crab claws.

Rose & Crown - England, Epcot

Rose & Crown was a new spot for us as well. We had been here previously for a pint of beer or two but never ate here. Of course Dad and Michael had to try the beer sampler. Things seemed to get less tasty as they moved from left to right. Mom was brave and tried the Guiness which none of us liked. For lunch we had some really yummy eats. Mom got a burger that had a fried egg on it. Dad got shepard's pie. Michael had some yummy fish and chips, while I enjoyed one of the best reubens I've ever had. We all decided that this would definitely be added to our must eat list again.
